The messy side of personal productivity

Here's the thing. When you read blogs and watch videos from all your favourite personal productivity content producers, even reading some of the post I have put out recently on planning, what you see is the ideal. What you see is how we would want to do things all the time if life worked out that way. Honestly, it doesn't. So here is the messy side of personal productivity.

I want to start each day with a plan. I want to start each week with a plan. I want to ensure I take good breaks and maintain my hydration and prioritise movement through the day to maintain my energy and focus. I want to eat the right stuff to keep me going.

But I don't. Not every day.
I'm also convinced that this will be the case for most other people as well, including all the gurus we know and love.
Life is far from ideal and things don't work out the way you would them to every day.
Many days my plan ends up being nothing more than opening my to do list and hacking away at it for the day.

Some days, I crave unhealthy snacks. Flapjacks are my favourite. Some days I get to the end of the day and realise I have a headache because I haven't drunk anything all day.
