The Hypocrisy of Productivity ‘advice’

Did you know that I am a hypocrite?

All of my content comes with the tag line — do as I say, not as I do. You see we need to consider the hypocrisy of productivity ‘advice’.

I do not always practice what I preach when it comes to this stuff. And that’s ok. Life is messy. I know that you know this. What you read and see from people who write about this stuff online is always put forward from the point of view of being under ‘controlled’ conditions. i.e. This is what I would do, if I always did things the way I think they should be done.

The reality is, no matter how clear you are on the ‘right’ way to go about things — you won’t always follow through on your best intentions. I certainly do not.

Let me give you an obvious example. I firmly believe that the best time to plan your day, is at the end of the day before. This is the process that I advocate in my content. I just don’t often do it.

This is to my detriment.

The reason is not because I actually don’t think it is important. The reason is because I am human and therefore weak.

I often get caught by the trap of being distracted by things or not finishing up something when I should and so not having time to plan tomorrow before I need to leave work. OR, I remember I haven’t…
