This post will not ‘go viral’. It probably won’t even get dozens of views. But, if this blog makes it big, then I hope in years to come people will look back and say “this is where it changed”. Simple Productivity.

Start with the conclusion.

So, after 7 years on the productivity bandwagon, here is my observation. Obsessing about ‘how’ you get things done doesn’t make you more productive. What makes you more productive is consistently sticking with the same system AND the same apps and tools for years to come. This is, at least, quintupled if your system and apps are simple.

The example of productivity ‘gurus’.

This observation holds true when I test it against all of my productivity ‘gurus’. Carl Pullein, Scot Friesen, Thomas Frank, Tiago Forte, Matt D’Avella, August Bradley — I could list more. Each of these uses a different system and a different set of tools from one another. BUT, they have each consistently used the same system and setup for an extended period of time.

Carl has used COD as his base system, ToDoist and Evertnote for as long as I have followed him. The recent (a few years ago now) change to the Time Sector system was notable as it was a rare change for Carl. Tiago has used his Second Brain PARA set up and August has used PPV and Notion for all of…
